Government to resend advisory on deep fake to intermediaries

The Indian government plans to resend an advisory to social media and internet intermediaries, urging them to promptly remove deepfake photos and videos. The IT Act and IT Rules provide provisions for the swift removal of deepfake content categorized as misinformation. The advisory comes after Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed concern over deepfakes, referring to a fake video showing him participating in the Garba dance. Failure to take down such content may result in imprisonment or fines under existing regulations.
