TikTok violates Indonesian in-app transactions ban, says minister

TikTok, the Chinese short video app, is allegedly still violating Indonesia's ban on in-app transactions. Despite taking control of the country's largest e-commerce platform, TikTok Shop remains non-compliant with Indonesian regulations. The government had previously banned online shopping on social media platforms, citing data security concerns and the protection of smaller merchants. TikTok's parent company, ByteDance, had acquired 75.01% of Tokopedia for $840 million. The Indonesian Minister for SMEs has called for the trade minister to reprimand TikTok for non-compliance, emphasizing the importance of government authority. TikTok has not yet responded to the allegations.
