OTT, tech companies need not worry about telcos flouting net neutrality rules, says DoT

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) in India has stated that over-the-top (OTT) players and technology companies shouldn't be concerned about telecom operators violating net neutrality rules. The operators are required to ensure non-discriminatory internet traffic by virtue of their license conditions. While a revenue sharing mechanism between telcos and OTT players is still under consideration, it is separate from the net neutrality issue. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) is examining the matter and will provide recommendations before any decisions are made.
